Custom Spice pouches are built with a seal wide and hot enough to hold even when fine powder gets caught in the seam. Made for spice brands, seasoning blenders, and speciality food companies across the USA.
Why do some Custom spice pouches leak a fine dust along the seam within weeks of hitting the shelf, even when the film itself tested fine? It almost always comes down to fill contamination at the seal. Custom spice pouches need a seal wide enough and hot enough to burn through any stray powder caught in the seam during filling, or that seal never actually closes properly.
A small-batch spice brand in Austin came to Hale Path Packaging after distributors started returning pallets over pouches leaking dust along the bottom seam. Their old film sealed fine in testing, but failed once real production speed and fine powder got involved. We widened the seal band and adjusted the seal temperature profile specifically for their fill weight and grind size. “Didn’t realise it was a seal problem until you said it,” the owner told us after the first reprint run shipped with zero seam complaints. Same spice blend, same filling line — the only change was a seal actually built for the powder going through it.

Spice brands lose more product to bad seals than bad film, and that’s the detail Hale Path Packaging has spent over a decade getting right. We supply small-batch spice roasters in Chicago, seasoning blenders in Seattle, and speciality grocers in Miami with Custom spice pouches engineered around real fill conditions, not just a lab sample. Our guide to flexible packaging barriers breaks down which film actually suits ground versus whole spice.
So what actually determines whether a spice pouch seals clean at production speed? It comes down to matching seal width to how fast the line runs and how fine the product is. Custom Spice pouches built for high-speed filling need a wider seal margin than a low-volume, hand-filled batch ever would.
Hale Path Packaging supplies flexible spice and seasoning packaging to food brands and co-packers across the USA.

Pouches typically run cheaper per unit than glass jars for the same fill weight, mostly due to lower material and shipping costs. Jars can claw back some of that gap in perceived value for premium, gift-tier spice lines.
Ground spice needs a tighter barrier rating than whole spice, since exposed surface area speeds up flavor loss. Whole spices and pods can often use a slightly lighter film without losing shelf life.
Compostable and recyclable film structures are both available and don't require a change to seal width or barrier performance. The cost difference has narrowed enough that most brands treat it as a standard option now.
Around 500 units for a digital run, roughly 2 to 3 weeks once the artwork's signed off. Going offset means a bigger commitment upfront, though the per-unit price drops once volume climbs.
Yes, FDA food contact material requirements apply to any packaging touching food directly, spice pouches included. This is worth confirming with your supplier before finalising film structure, not after production starts.
Window panels can be added to most pouch formats, though placement needs to avoid weakening the seal line around the cutout.
