Yes, quite a few brands go this route. The interior usually gets lined separately in a solid color or printed wrap, so the inside can feel totally different from that high-impact outer reveal.
The chipboard core on its own recycles just fine. It's the laminate that's usually a plastic film, and that needs peeling off the board first before the paper stream can take it. Water-based laminate options skip that step entirely.
Somewhere around 100 to 200 units for most runs. Simpler structure, lower numbers are possible. Custom shapes or multi-part inserts, though, push the minimum up since tooling costs need covering either way.

It does, though the effect reads best on a larger surface. Small panels still shift color, just with less visible range, so a lot of brands reserve the full holographic treatment for the outer box and keep inserts simpler.
