Slotted & Standard Boxes

Slotted & Standard Boxes

Slotted and standard boxes are the everyday top and bottom corrugated boxes for shipping, storing, and moving products. They arrive flat, fold fast, and hold up in transit. At Hale Path Packaging, we make them in custom sizes and prints for US businesses.

Slotted Boxes USA: Pick the Right Style for Your Shipment

A slotted box is one folded sheet of corrugated board with slots cut where the flaps bend. Custom slotted boxes come in several styles, and these three cover most orders. We check product weight and stacking height against the flap depth before confirming a style. Tell us what you ship, and we will suggest the style that uses the least board.

  • Regular slotted box: All four flaps are the same length, and the outer flaps fit in the middle. This is FEFCO style 0201, the standard choice for most products.
  • Half slotted box: Slots are cut on one side only, so the other side stays open. You can use it as a tray or add a separate lid.
  • Full overlap box (FOL): The outer flaps cover the full width of the box. That gives a double layer of board on top and bottom, which helps with dense loads and heavy items.

Sizes for Everything From Small Parts to Bulky Stock

Box sizes are written as inside length, width and height, in inches. Standard stock in regular slotted containers runs from about 6 x 4 x 4 in up to 24 x 18 x 18 in. Any other size can be cut to order. Small shipping boxes suit cosmetics and subscription items. Larger cartons suit bedding, wholesale restocking, house moves, and trade show kits. Slotted boxes ship flat, so they save warehouse space, and a closer fit lowers the dimensional weight charge from carriers. Every product is measured with its inner packing in place before a dieline is cut. We cut each size to your exact dimensions. Share those measurements with us, and we will confirm the box.

Corrugated Board Built for the Weight You Ship

Most slotted boxes use single wall corrugated board, and heavier loads move up to double-wall. The edge crush test rating shows how much stacking pressure the board can take. As a rough guide, 32 ECT suits loads up to about 65 lb, and 44 ECT suits loads up to about 95 lb. Your box weight sets the ECT rating and calliper on the quote, and the board spec is confirmed before the run is cut.E flute is about 1/16 in thick, B flute about 1/8 in, and C flute about 5/32 in, and C is the usual choice for corrugated mailer boxes. Double wall corrugated suits heavy loads, as in our heavy-duty shipping containers. Most of our board has recycled corrugated content, with a kraft or white liner on any grade. We ask for your packed weight up front, so the grade we quote matches the load. Share your box weight with us, and we will confirm the flute and ECT rating.

Printing and Finishing Options That Make Your Boxes Stand Out

You can leave a slotted box in plain kraft or print your logo in one or two colors. Flexo printing keeps the cost per box low on larger runs. Digital printing suits short runs and detailed artwork. Litho-laminated board gives the sharpest color for boxes that sit on a shelf. You can print the inside of the box too. Our custom printed corrugated boxes use water-based inks, and an aqueous coating helps the print resist scuffs in transit. Logos are placed on the dieline first, clear of the scores and slots, and approved before printing starts. Our supplies a finished dieline with every print job. Your artwork is set on it by us, ready for your sign-off.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a slotted box?

A slotted box is a corrugated box constructed from one sheet of board with slots cut for the flaps. The flaps fold down to complete the box, so you do not require a separate lid.

Are slotted boxes stronger than mailer boxes?

That depends on the board and the size. Slotted boxes in C flute or double wall take heavier loads and more stacking. Mailer boxes suit lighter boxes where presentation matters.

Should I choose single wall or double wall?

Single wall works for products under about 65 lb. Select double wall for heavy items, tall pallet stacks, or long transportation.

Can I order a custom size?

Yes. Give us the length, width, and height of your product, and we will cut the box with the right support.

Do you deliver across the USA?

We deliver to trades in every US state. Delivery time depends on your location and is added to the 7 to 14 working days required for display.

Are your slotted boxes recyclable?

Yes. Corrugated board is widely reclaimed, and our water-based inks allow these recyclable shipping boxes to go straight into normal cardboard recycling.

What is the MOQ for slotted boxes?

Yes. Corrugated board is widely reclaimed, and our water-based inks allow these recyclable shipping boxes to go straight into normal cardboard recycling.

What is the distinction between an RSC and an HSC?

An RSC has slotted flaps on the top and bottom, so it locks at both ends. An HSC is slotted on one side and remains open on the other, which fits trays and separate lids.
