SRP split wrap packaging is one sheet of corrugated board that wraps around a group of products. You tear it open by hand, and what's left is a tray, ready for the shelf. Hale Path Packaging makes it for US brands in custom cardboard box sizes and prints, and we sample before we run anything.

The corrugated unit goes from the pallet to the shelf, and nobody has to unpack or restack anything. In CPG, it’s also known as retail-ready packaging. If you’ve seen the question ” What is SRP in manufacturing?, the answer is the same: the pack is built on the line so it shows up ready to display. SRP can also mean suggested retail price when people are talking about pricing, so look at the context. For related formats, browse our hybrid retail-ready packaging.
Corrugated wrap is a single sheet of board folded around a group of products. A split wrap has a perforated or slit line running through that sheet. Someone pulls along it; the top comes off, and the bottom half stays put as the tray.
You’ll see it called SRP slit, SRP wrap and plain split wrap, but it’s the same format each time. Which one you go for turns on the print finish you are after and how much weight the pile has to hold.
It does well with canned and bottled food and drink, personal care and cosmetics, household and cleaning products, and small pantry and snack items. Very heavy or irregular items are better in full retail display boxes.
Hale Path Packaging has been making custom packaging for many years. We work with US brands and co-packers, designing and testing split wrap structures for food, cosmetics boxes, and household goods. Every job gets a sample before production, because a fold that’s slightly off can end up as an expensive reprint.

A tray and hood come as two pieces, and you have to order and assemble both. Split wrap is a single sheet, which means fewer parts to deal with and faster packing. A full display box does protect the product better, but it takes more shelf space and normally costs more. Cardboard display boxes are recycled all over the US, so standard flexo or water-based inks and coatings are the way to go.
The SRP split wrap packaging cost comes down to five things:
You pay for tooling once, and it covers the whole run, so each piece costs less on a big order. If you want an exact price, send us your product dimensions, case count and artwork. Our corrugated boxes pricing guide goes through how each factor changes the price.
Your line decides how the wrap gets sealed. Standard carton sealing tape and hot melt glue seams are both common. The SRP split wrap packaging tape needs to hold through shipping, yet it can’t stop the perforation from tearing cleanly. If you stick tape over the split line, staff will struggle to open the pack. Apply it next to the line, and test a sample before you go any further. For this, we provide cardboard shipping boxes.
Pull this together before you place SRP split wrap packaging orders:
Get a physical sample as well. Open it by hand, stack a few and set one on a real shelf. Our custom straight tuck end boxes explain how long that takes.
Take a snack brand whose bags reached the shelf in plain shippers. Staff cut the boxes open with blades, and the bags went up in no particular order. Put the same bags in a printed split wrap, and the pack tears open in one pull, with the bags standing upright and the brand name facing out.
If you’re comparing corrugated packaging companies or corrugated packaging suppliers, ask about:

The pack goes from the pallet to the frame without anyone unpacking or restacking it. Stores save restocking time, and brands obtain product that remains neat and faces forward.
Price comes from the board grade, sheet size, print coverage, order quantity and tooling. Dies and plates are a single cost shared across the run, so larger orders cost less per piece.
Yes. Corrugated board gets recycled widely across the US. Use standard flexo or water-based inks and coatings, and skip heavy plastic films. Then the wrap can go into the store's cardboard recycling with no trouble.
Either standard carton sealing tape or a hot melt glue seam will do. Don't put tape over the split line, or the perforation won't tear properly. Put it alongside instead, and try a sample on your packing line before you sign off a run.
Yes, you can print it with flexo or litho-laminated. Put your logo and product name on the front of the tray, since that's the bit shoppers see on the shelf once the top is gone.
Yes, and don't skip it. Tear it open by hand, stack a few, and put one on a real shelf before you approve production. That tells you if the split tears cleanly, if the fold holds the product, and if the pallet pattern works.
