Tea doypack packaging pouches need a tighter light barrier than most other tea packaging, since green tea's catechins break down faster under UV exposure than black tea's more oxidized compounds do. Made for tea brands, wellness companies, and specialty grocers across the USA.
It comes down to catechins, the antioxidant compounds responsible for green tea’s flavor and much of its health appeal. They break down under light exposure far faster than the more oxidized, stable compounds in black tea. A clear or lightly tinted film that works fine for black tea will quietly let enough UV through to fade green tea well before its intended shelf life ends.
A specialty tea brand in Austin came to us after customers started noting their tea looked duller and tasted flatter within weeks, despite being stored correctly. Their pouch used a lightly tinted film that worked fine for their black tea line but was never built to protect green tea’s more light-sensitive compounds. We moved their green tea SKUs to a fully opaque metallised pouch while keeping the tinted film for black tea. Color fade and flavor complaints dropped to nearly zero. Same tea, same shelf time, same supplier. The only change was matching the barrier to the product actually inside the bag.
Compostable and recyclable film structures are both available, and neither one requires giving up the light barrier a sensitive tea needs. This is a common assumption we hear from smaller tea brands, that going eco-friendly means accepting a weaker pouch, and it’s not accurate with the film structures available now.

Digital print runs typically start around 100 units, with production taking roughly 2 to 3 weeks depending on film complexity and finish. Fully opaque or metalised film runs slightly higher per unit than a lightly tinted option, but that difference is usually small compared to what it saves in returns and flavor complaints down the line.
If your lineup includes coffee alongside tea, the barrier logic carries over almost directly to our aluminum foil coffee bags and quad seal coffee bags, since coffee has its own oxidation timeline that benefits from the same kind of matched barrier thinking.
Yes, and treating them the same is a common early mistake. Loose-leaf tea needs a genuine reclosable zipper since the pouch gets opened and closed repeatedly over its shelf life. Tea bag sachets get opened once and used immediately, so a simple heat-seal closure is not a downgrade; it’s the correct spec for how the product is actually used. If your brand also sells a boxed tea variety alongside pouches, our custom cake boxes line shares the same food-safe material standards for anything shipped alongside consumables.

Yes. Green tea is far more sensitive to light than black tea. The same pouch that keeps black tea tasting fine can let green tea fade well before its best-by date.

Yes. It displaces oxygen before sealing, working alongside the light barrier rather than replacing it.
Depends on use. Loose-leaf needs a zipper since it's opened repeatedly. Tea bag sachets are opened once, so heat-seal is the correct spec, not a downgrade.
A doypack stands upright on its own gusseted base, suited to loose-leaf tea sold by volume. A flat pouch lies flush and works well for tea bag sachets or mail-order shipping where shelf presence matters less than a compact shape.
If your line includes both green and black tea, or anything else with a different light sensitivity, one film across the whole line is the most common mistake we see. Matching barrier to each tea type, not standardizing for convenience, is what actually protects flavor.
